Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
